As Correia’s first sans serif design, she wanted Laca “to have a friendly and retro style,” she writes. Correia found inspiration in old soap packaging from Portugal, and the special ligatures were the starting point for the personality of the typeface. Recalls Correia: “The biggest challenge was to create the bold weight and to keep great legibility in small sizes.” The result is well suited for branding as well as text. Laca was designed in 2018, and the Cyrillic was added in 2020.
