“Mariola is a beach restaurant located at the heart of the business district of Mexico City. Characterized by its high-rise buildings, the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood is located in the center of Mexico City. The challenge for this project was to create a space that would enable people working in the area to disconnect from work. Moreover, the intention was to allow people to escape from the noise and chaos of the city and give them a feeling of being on holiday.

“The name Mariola sounds just like mar y ola, or ‘sea and waves’, which references the beach and the holidays. But it is also a feminine name, which suggests the security and warmness of knowing the name of the person who’s in charge of the kitchen. Mariola brings to mind a kind woman, a great hostess who welcomes each of her guests with affection.

“The concept for Mariola contrasts with the graphic trends of the area. The goal was to create an all-inclusive identity expressing the joy and relaxed vibes of Mexican beaches: the spirit of the coast, where life is simpler, calmer and tastier.”
