Duration: We set up Regular Practice in the summer of 2017, so we are almost two years old.

Location: Our studio is based in Hackney Wick, East London, United Kingdom. Education: Tom received his BA from the Sheffield Institute of Arts in Sheffield and his MA from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. Kristoffer received his BA from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and his MA from RCA.

Career path: We set up Regular Practice after having regularly collaborated during our studies at RCA. Our approach was developed through a series of self-initiated projects; we made work that extended and interrogated formal constraints that were mostly based around process, technique and workflow. In that way, it was a break from the more conceptual focus of an MA at RCA. By the time we graduated, we had enough of a collaborative body of work that we were able to set up a studio.

Cultural influences: We consciously try to be inspired by material outside of ultracontemporary spheres, like social media. This often means digging through archives and old books.

Our work takes many forms, as we feel any contemporary graphic design studio should be able to do.”

Favorite project: The RCA Graduate Exhibition 2018, as we not only received the opportunity to design a new and exciting workflow for the identity, but also, we created outputs that varied in scale and materiality, from huge window vinyls to coffee cups and printed ephemera.

Work environment: We share a studio space in Hackney Wick with some good friends we know from RCA. We like having a shared space, as we get to discuss ideas and bounce notions around.

Approach: We like to build the tools as well as systematize and plan the approach for our projects. Our work takes many forms, as we feel any contemporary graphic design studio should be able to do. We often describe our work as “typecentric,” as our approach is driven by typographic sensibilities, which often manifest in custom lettering and type.

Aspirations: We hope to continue working with clients that trust us to make new and interesting work, and we hope we are able to keep pushing ourselves and our practices. We also want to make more time for self-initiated work. We recently grew our team to three, which is working really well for us, and growing our team even further is not out of the question.
