Built in 1876, the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord was the home to multiple actors and musicians from all over the world. However, it would continue to decline over the next century until it was reborn under the management of British director Peter Brook, who rehabilitated the old building in 1974. Thanks to his investment, Bouffes du Nord flourished and after many successful years, Brook passed on the management to a new generation. Since 2015, the theatre has been working with Paris-based designers Violaine Orsoni and Jérémy Schneider, owners of illustration and graphic arts studio Violaine & Jérémy. Once again, Bouffes du Nord asked the studio to work on its brand identity for the 2017-2018 season. Collaborating with illustrator Anna Kövecses, the studio revitalized the theatre’s posters and programs and created a custom typeface called traviata, a timeless, elegant font named after Verdi’s play recently showing at the theatre for the second year in a row.
