“This magazine article told of women who had radically changed careers or lifestyles because they were unhappy with the lives they were leading. Through my illustration, I wanted to show courage and vulnerability at the same time, as hardships had prompted these women to change. The shedding of a mermaid tail, an iconic feminine folktale symbol, is associated with bareness and rebirth in metamorphosis.”
